Tourist scam to avoid: the dropped wallet

Well-known scam very documented: an empty wallet that looks as though it has been stolen and dumped on the floor, will be placed on the ground.
When you walk past it your instinct is to check your own wallet, to make sure it’s safe. Now an onlooker will make a note of where you checked for your wallet, and will know exactly where to put his hands when he pickpockets you further down the road.
