Visiting this giant 2000-year-old temple is made even more fascinating by a little bit of information about it. According to Lonely Planet, the Pantheon is “one of the world’s most sublime architectural creations”.
What is Pantheon? Pantheon is a Christian church, originally commissioned by Marcus Agrippa as a temple to worship all gods of ancient Rome, and then in 609 A.D. it was turned into a Christian church. It is a stunning building, known for the massive columns supporting its portico, and for the oculus in its dome.
The breathtaking Pantheon dome is the largest, unreinforced concrete dome in the world. It is about 43.3 metres (142 ft) in diameter (really breathtaking), and is even bigger than the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica.
