In history, Rome was always remembered for its huge militaristic power, known worldwide after the punic wars, in where the empire starts to spread and becomes more and more important. Furthermore, romans are well known for their magnificent work: cities, public work, the first road network and the aqueduct.
The original site of Rome were the seven hills, well known as “sette colli” , from where there was a bottleneck of the Tevere’s river, where it was easier fording because of the Tiberina’s Isle. The very first urban part of Rome was developed on the Palatine (Palatino) which was above the swampland. Later Rome developed itself on the Capitol Hill ( Campidoglio) , occupying the internal valley as well, whom was restored for the occasion and guested the Roman Forum (Foro Romano).
By doing so Rome was extending on the others hills, at first in a very disorganized way, then, under Augustus, following a urban development plan. In 64, after Nerone’s fire, the city was rebuilt all over, with new streets, tougher buildings and with tons of fountains.
The Civilization born from Tevere’s rivers recalls one of the biggest empire ever existed in history: it was capable of expanding on the current modern territories such as Spain, Portugal, France, Morocco, Munich, Belgium, but also Slovenia, Serbia, Iraq, Armenia, Georgia, Egypt, and part of Saudi Arabia, becoming an inimitable example of power up to our days.
